There are many product options which will provide passive ventilation for new build and existing homes. As this is a relatively new concept to New Zealand, we have recommended the following range of product options as a simple and effective guideline.
The products have been selected to achieve the recommended airflow for roof pitches above 15° (10,000mm2 lin/m) and below 15° (25,000 mm2 lin/m).

The NZBC requires a barrier between the roof paper & ceiling insulation.
NZS 4246:2006 – New Zealand Energy Efficiency – Installing Insulation in Residential Buildings. Page 22, Point 3.12.2 states the following:
“A minimum gap of 25mm needs to be maintained between the insulation and the underside of the roof (or underlay) to prevent wicking of water into the insulation“
The EV25 Eaves Ventilator performs two functions:
New Build – The Rafter Tray can be optionally fitted to the external face of the wall plate during construction which will make it easier to place at the correct height. This method only requires one fold.
Retro-fit – If the pitch of the roof is shallow, a telescopic grabber (used for picking up litter) can be used by pulling back the existing insulation and placing the tray on the wall plate. When the insulation is placed back it will hold the tray in place.
Dimensions – 845mm x 300mm
Material – Recycled Plastic
Airflow – 25,000mm2 lin/m
